An Inside Look at Life as a NICU Graduate”

This presentation will provide the latest statistics on the long-term consequences of prematurity and newborn illness, the programs that deliver an array of services to infants in hopes of minimizing their long-term difficulties, and her perspectives on the current state of Early Intervention services in the United States.
Our Learning Objectives:
- List two conditions and/or risk factors that are associated with long-term developmental difficulties.
- Describe two or more challenges for families coping with a NICU grad at home.
- Discuss at least one trend in EI Services within the US.
Anne has been working with infants and families in and out of the NICU since 1984. She is a nurse practitioner and the program manager of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP) at Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. She is currently enrolled in a PhD program at UCSF and learning quantitative methods to evaluate factors that influence developmental trajectories of children born prematurely. Anne enjoys her clinical role in the DBP programs and is committed to patient advocacy. She is the director of a Medical-Community Collaborative for children with special needs birth-5 years and is a very active participant in several professional national organizations.
